Tarahumara

The Tarahumara people are indigenous to the state of Chihiuahua Mexico. They reside in high sierra called the Copper Canyon. They retreated to the mountains in the 16th century to evade the Spanish invasion. They still practice their indigenous lifestyle dwelling in the caves and cliffs of the mountains. The Tarahumara are known for their ability to run long distances. In some case they have been known to run up to 200 miles in two days. They refer to themselves as the Raramuri which means “runners on foot” or “those who run fast”.
